Junior Kindergarten Class (K4)

A typical day in K - 4 starts with all students having a good breakfast before their busy day begins. Before work begins the students participate in the recital of the Ohenton Karihwatehkwen, The Opening Thanksgiving Address. Following The Ohenton Karihwatehkwen are the routines of a day's hard work. Each theme for the month is culturally based. For example if our theme is spring, we will teach the students about the maple syrup and its relation to the thunderers. Once a week the students learn their traditional dances, their meanings and why they are done. For Earth Day on April 22 the students will learn about all the things Mother Earth gives us and how we in turn, can give something back to her. The students will be listening to the Creation Story told by a knowledgeable person in our community. After the story the students will plant evergreen trees in pots to take home to plant in their yards.
