(Shidoshi, 10th Dan). I was the first Canadian to train in Ninjutsu in Japan and the first Canadian to ever receive a black belt in Ninjutsu. I was also the first Canadian to pass the 5th Dan test on the first attempt. At present, I am the only Canadian to have been graded to 10th Dan by Hatsumi Sensei.
All of my Bujinkan Dan ranks have been given to me personally by Soke Hatsumi himself. I have never received a Bujinkan Dan rank from anyone other than Soke Hatsumi. My ties with Ninjutsu are with Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the 34th Grand master of the Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu, and two of his students, Shihan Ishizuka and Shihan Shiraishi.
When I first joined the Bujinkan Dojo system, I was taken under the wing and guidance of Shihan Tetsuji Ishizuka until I became a Shidoshi, which automatically made me a personal student of Soke Hatsumi. It was also Shihan Ishizuka who introduced me to Shihan Isamu Shiraishi who kindly accepted me as his first foreign student. To this day l remain their grateful student. In the past I have also studied with other Japanese Shihans such as Noguchi Sensei, Nagato Sensei and Someiya Sensei and occasionally with Muramatsu Sensei. I also trained with Manaka Sensei when he was part of the Bujinkan system.
