Norma-Jean

Norma-Jean was born to Sarah Dorsey in 1937, who died shortly after giving birth to her. Norma's father was Jack Gross who was also Sarah's step-father and who at the same time fathered a son with Emma Gross whom they named Jack jr.

Sarah went to Spokane Washington to be with her father Clyde Dorsey when she was near full term and on her death Clyde had Jack Gross arrested in Helena Montana and charged with statutory rape.

Jack was sentenced from 1-15 years in the penitentiary at deerlodge Montana.

When Norma was born she was an exceptionally large baby and had a very large head which may have contributed to the death of Sarah. She was diagnosed as cephalic by the delivering intern and was sent to the home for the feeble-minded in Medical Lake Washington where she lived until her 21st birthday in 1958. You will notice from this picture of Norma Jean taken with Penny who was age 15 at the time that she was quite tall like her mother

Although there was no schooling available in the home, Norma who was actually quite intelligent was cared for by a nurse at the home named Ethel Graves who was a friend of Clyde Dorsey and was aware of the circumstances of her birth.

There was a little clique of normal intelligent children in the home who were institutionalized as infants and classed as feeble-minded and they learned from each other and from caring staff like Ethel Graves.

On reaching her 21st birthday Norma was released into the custody of a couple to tend to their children but after a lifetime of custody she was unable to cope with the demands of the parents and their children who sent her back to the institution as being too hostile towards children.

Ethel Graves then got in touch with her Uncle Jim Dorsey and asked him to intervene. Jim and Theresa went to Medical lake and agreed to take Norma on a trial basis.

At this time Brother Bob Dorsey agreed to take her into his home where she remained until she married.

It is known that Norma had two children but the family has lost track of her. If anyone has any knowledge of her present whereabouts please e-mil the below address.
