Our father was a planer man in a Kingston Ontario lumber mill when our mother died. With five children the oldest nine and the youngest one year old and the expense of our mother's funeral he was unable to keep us and so we were farmed out to relatives, the orphanage and foster homes.
He wouldn't rest though until he was able to provide a roof over our heads and a housekeeper to care for us.
We all loved him dearly and though we were not too fond of the houskeeper Mabel Ladasouer, we were glad that he married her before her death.
Sometime after her death he came to live with us on the farm, where shortly after his seventy-third birthday in 1968 he died.
