The Adult Care Division Structure Consists of four programs within
the department of Social Development and Health which are: Home Care, Home
Support, Iakhihsohtha & Tsiionkwanonhso:te.
HOME CARE
The Home Care Program provides home nursing and specialized medical care
for eligible people who desire to return or remain in their home after hospitalization
during an acute and chronic illness. Nursing can include dressing changes,
I.V. therapy, and assistance with medical supplies and equipment. These
services are provided at the request of the patient's physician. Nurses
can also network with other MCA programs on the patient's behalf. Their

HOME SUPPORT
The Home Support Program assists people whose capabilities are diminished
due to illness or age. Program personnel assist with activities of daily
living such as personal care, meal preparation, grocery shopping, housekeeping,
and assist with medical appointments. Through this assistance the elderly,
frail, and/or ill people are able to remain in their homes should they desire

Lifeline
Lifeline is an electronic monitoring system which alerts Akwesasne Central
Dispatch that a Lifeline user requires help, such as as an Elderly who lives
alone and may have fallen. The device transmits a message, by telephone
to Central Dispatch, that help is needed. . The Dispatcher calls a relative
or neighbor to check the person; if assistance is required, an ambulance
and/or the police are sent. Home Support personnel receive applications
and arrange for installation. For more information, call 575-2341, and transfer

IAKHIHSOHTHA
(Our Grandparents Home)
Iakhihsohtha is a home for the aged, licensed by the Province of Quebec,
for individuals who require supervisory health care. Generally, these are
our Elders. Residents, their families, and community members are encouraged
to participate in social activities which are planned by staff and the Residents
Council. Their office and facility is located in Tsi Snaihne. Their phone

TSIIOKWANONHSO:TE
Tsiionkwanonso:te located in the Kawenoke district, is a thirty bed nursing
home, licensed by the Province of Ontario. It's residents are individuals
who require long-term nursing care, who generally are our Elders. Tsiiokwanohnso:te
opened it's doors to our elderly on August 17th, 1994. Resident admissions
have increased from 8 in 1994 to a high of 24 residents in March 1997 with
resident applications being received on a daily basis.
Residents, their families, and community members are encouraged to participate
in social activities which are planned by staff and volunteers. Their phone

ONONKWASONA PHARMACY
The pharmacy is opened Monday - Friday from 9:00 - 5:00 and on Saturday
from 9:00 - 12:00 (except during hunting season, when it is closed on Saturdays).
Pharmacy services include the filling of prescriptions, pharmaceutical counseling,
and sales of nonprescription medicines. They also stock related items. The

OPTOMETRY
Opened Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 4:30, an Optometrist
offers eyeexaminations. The optometry office is equipped with a selection
of frames for prescription glasses, sunglasses, or contact lenses.
