The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is pleased to present TSI ION KWA NONH SO:TE, formerly referred to as the Akwesasne Adult Care Facility. This project represents the completion of another geriatric residential facility in Akwesasne. In 1983, the community identified the facilities that were required in Akwesasne to meet the varied needs of our elders. Those facilities included an independent seniors housing complex (completed in 1987 in the Village of St Regis), a new Home for the Aged (Iakhihsohtha - completed in 1990 in the Chenail District) and now Tsi ion kwa nonh so:te, an Extended Health Care Facility. These facilities have been constructed through the dedicated effort of the elected leadership and technical staff of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. We are very proud to see the fruits of our labor fulfilled.

 About TSIIONKWA NONH SO:TE

Tsiionkwanonhso:te is a 30 bed extended health care facility which will be licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health - Nursing Home Branch. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) received approval of its submission for 50 extended care beds through a provincial wide competition for new multi-cultural bed spaces made available in 1990.

Due to limited capitalrevenues available, the MCA requested and received approval from the Ministry to construct only 30 beds at this time, and reserve the balance of 20 beds for future construction. The design of the facility allowed all the common and central areas to accommodate 50 residents while only 30 beds spaces have been constructed.
