25th ANNIVERSARY!

CKON will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary this year! Our first broadcast was aired on October 1, 1984 over the frequency of 97.3 FM with a mere 250 watts. Today, CKON uses 3000 watts of ERP. Our format is country music during daytime hours Mondays - Thursdays. After 6pm, we change to adult contemporary. Friday is Free Format Friday and we play EVERYTHING! You can hear Snoop Dog right after George Jones! On weekends, our format begins with Saturday's Classic Country with John Peters. At Noon, it changes to all genres with Teddy Peters speaking all in Mohawk. After 6pm, Tammy comes in with CKON's Saturday Night Dance Party. Sunday begins with John Peters Gospel Show from 6 - 8 am. Kim comes on with some more always popular Classic Country from 8am - Noon. At Noon, look out! Here comes "Big M" Michael Terry with your oldies but goodies Rock and Roll. Tammy comes back at 6pm with 70's & 80's Rock.

CKON was meant to communicate with the people of Akwesasne through preservation and promotion of the Mohawk culture, and to broadcast information, entertainment, and music in a way very unique to the community where it began. Teddy Peters' All-Mohawk radio show airs on Saturdays from Noon-6pm. He spins Native music along with popular music of all genres. His all-Mohawk commentary makes his show a favorite among Akwesasronon of all ages. Mohawk language lessons can be heard Mondays - Fridays around 6:15pm after local news and community announcements. We also strive to play Native music from local talent as well as nationwide artists.

All in all, CKON offers many different programs to accommodate listeners from all over. So give us a listen! You just might like what you hear!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART & STROKE CHALLENGE!!!!

8 soon-to-be 9 year old Darrin Cook of Calgary has entered the 2009 Jump Rope for Heart at his school Pembroke Elementary School. He and his parents are from Akwesasne and moved there for employment. He is looking for donations or sponsors to help him reach his goal. His goal was to reach $220 to enter a chance to win a prize of an outdoor soccer ball and net. He has reached that goal! Way to go to Perry Francis! Now he is trying to get to $350. C'mon Akwesasne! I'm sure we can help him to SURPASS his goal! We need to encourage all youth to strive to reach & surpass all their goals and dreams, especially for such a good cause! Way to go Darrin! Akwesasne is proud of you!!!!
