Box Lacrosse

The grades 7 and 8 co-ed Annual Box lacrosse Tournament was held at Anowarako:wa Arena on Cornwall Island on Wednesday, May, 22. The games started around 9:00 am, and ended around 3 pm. This is a friendship tournament with little body checking and includes girls who like to play lacrosse.

The first game, the Akwesasne Wolves were defeated by the Salmon River Shamrocks, 8 - 4. The second game, the Kahnawake Mohawks were defeated by the Akwesasne Bears, 15 - 4. But, this game had ended 20 minutes longer. Raun Mitchell, #99 of the Bears was checked into the boards and was injured badly. He'd broken 2 bones in his lower left leg. The third game, the Akwesasne Wolves were defeated by the Akwesasne Bears, 10 - 4. Then Salmon River Shamrocks beat kahnawake, 5 - 3. Later, the Akwesasne Wolves beat kahnawake, 10 - 3.

In the championship game, Akwesasne Bears played the Salmon River Shamrocks. The score was 6 - 4 for the Bears. This game was dedicated to Raun Mitchell who had played his first and only game. Akwesasne Bears and their coarch Margie Skidders took the Gold.

Salmon River got Silver, with Coach David White. And finally, the Bronze went to Akwesasne Wolves, with Coach and Vice Principal, Larry Gorrow. Kahnawake had been defeated in all their games, but everyone here had played like professional lacrosse players.

In the undefeated team were: Ryan Oakes, with 9 goals; Joe Martin, with 2 goals; Perry Point, with 1 goal; Raun Mitchell, with 3 goals; Doogie George, with 1 goal; Robert McDonald, with 2 goals; Phillip Boots, with 1 goal; Sam Martin, with 3 goals; Jordan Thompsan, with 3 goals; Owen Leaf, with 2 goals; Clifford Barnes, with 4 goals; Patti Lazore, Nikaiataa Skidders, Brittany Benedict, Daylan Adams, goalie Phillip Lazore, and Robert Thompson.

From our Thunder, Outlaws, and Warriors Sr. Lacrosse teams were referees, Fred Thompson, Adam Thompson, Greg Phillips, Pete Skye, Eddie Vyce, and Scott Harris.
