"Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints"

The RRCA also claims responsibility for certain wildlife parks such as the Cooper Marsh Conservation Area.  The Cooper Marsh Conservation Area along the St. Lawrence River continues to be the largest Authority-owned conservation project.  The Authority has acquired about 650 acres of marshland which is being conserved for its unique weatland features.  There are several nature trails and exhibits available to the public.

What is Cooper Marsh?

Situated in the Lake St. Francis area of the St. Lawrence River, Cooper Marsh Conservation Area (named after William Cooper Sr.) is the leading edge of the Raisin Region Conservation Authority's drive to preserve our wetland heritage.  At Cooper Marsh you will find an attractive area of marshland, treed swamp, upland meadows, forested areas, wildflower fields, isolated ponds, winding streams and agricultural land seeded with attractive crops for waterfowl.

Cooper Marsh forms part of the larger Charlottenburgh Marsh one of the most significant marshlands in all of Ontario, and the largest remaining wetland on the Ontario side of Lake St. Francis.  The Visitors Centre provides local communities and visitors with an exceptional learning facility to teach conservation ethics and encourage environmental appreciation both in toady's society and in future generations.

Outdoor Education Program

The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry School Boards use the Visitors Centre daily during the school year. the curriculums used are approved to best meet the needs of each school in educating elementary through secondary school students in the value of wetlands and the fascinating secrets of the natural environment.
