The Raisin River Canoe Race

       The RRCA also sponsors such activities as the annual Great Raisin River White Water Canoe Race.  While keeping in close touch with the public, the Raisin River Canoe Race continues to be the major public outing sponsored by the RRCA.

       Over 100 canoeists participate in this annual event, held during the spring runoff, and thousands of spectators line the 21-mile course to catch the action. The canoe race begins in St. Andrew's West and ends in Williamstown and it is the longest in Eastern Ontario.  It is a chance for family and friends to get together and enjoy themselves.

Registration:

     The registration office is located in St. Andrews West.  The office opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 12:00 p.m. on the day of the event only.  Positioning of the ProClass to be determined at 1:30 a.m.

Dam:  Participants will only be held back at the dam in Martintown if there is an                                          emergency (ie., if a canoeist is trapped in the under current at the dam)

Rapids:  Caution should be exercised by all participants entering areas where there are                                   rapids especially the last set of rapids before Williamstown.

    All participants should carry a spare paddle and a pail for bailing out water

Liability:

    The sponsoring organization, the officials and the committee members will not be liable for injuries to persons or property of competitors, officials or others.  Nor shall it be incumbent upon them to furnish rescue or salvage of equipment.

Course

    The course is 35 kilometers long, it is winding and varied.  There is a dam in Martintown and rapids occur at various points along the course.

Awards:

     Medals are awarded to all participants finishing the event.  Awards will be presented at St. Mary's Parish Centre in Williamstown.  The banquet is held at St. Mary's Hall and is sponsored by St. Mary's Centre Organization.
