The Akwesasne Mohawk School is a unique place where Mohawk students go to school from Pre-Kindergarden to the eighth grade. It is located on Cornwall Island, an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, near Cornwall, Ontario. It is a part of the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory which is located in part of Ontario, Quebec and New York State.

Our school has about 310 students and growing every year.

Sports are always important to our people for keeping healthy and growing up socially with our peers. Our school has an annual race called the Tom Longboat/Billy Mills Run as well as going to the Kahnawake Territory for a race with them. Lacrosse is our national sport and in the spring we have a Field Lacrosse Team and a Box Lacrosse Tournament. Lacrosse is the Creator's Game and an important part of our culture and social life in the spring and summer. In May we always celebrate Heritage Week where we try to learn more about our heritage and include social activities that are fun.

Our students learn about the usual subjects as well as the Mohawk culture, history and language. Some samples of students writing are included for you to enjoy.

Many of our adults speak Mohawk and we also teach it in our schools. Our language is very important to us and we are working on bringing our language back.

Our school participates in an annual Science Fair Competition within our school board. We are pleased to offer the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education Science Fair Committee Science Fair Manual for your use on the Internet. Just click on the A.M.B.E. Science Fair Manual Link.
